BOONE
Boone, North Carolina is the “Kilometer-high” town at an elevation of 3333 feet! According to Norm Crampton, author of “Making Your Move to One of America’s Best Small Towns”, Boone is one of two of America’s “Best Small Towns” located in Watauga County.
Crampton lists Boone as one of the best “College Towns” in the country. The presence of Appalachian State University “adds a cultural component and guarantees you will see young people on the street,” he says. Boone is located in a valley, surrounded by the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The quaint older section of Boone, sits adjacent to the university campus, boasts a variety of art galleries, restaurants, shops and antique stores. The university brings a wide selection of cultural events in the visual and performing arts. “Appalachian Summer” is a cultural festival with events occurring each day during the month of July and attracts many visitors. Here are some links to the beautiful High Country and surrounding countryside that will introduce you to the exquisite landscapes, special events, and unique historic towns in this area.
